GPA Calculator
Your GPA is a credit-weighted average of grade points: an A in a 4-credit class moves it more than an A in a 1-credit class. Add a row per course with its grade and credits, and optionally blend in a previous GPA for your cumulative figure.

How to use this calculator
- Add a row for every course and pick its letter grade.
- Enter each course’s credits (most classes are 3 or 4).
- Optionally add your previous GPA and credits for a cumulative result, then Calculate.
Worked example
Three courses: A in a 4-credit class, B in a 3-credit class, A− in a 3-credit class.
- Points: 4.0 × 4 = 16; 3.0 × 3 = 9; 3.7 × 3 = 11.1.
- Total points 36.1 over 10 credits.
- GPA: 36.1 ÷ 10 = 3.61.
Result: The GPA is 3.61.
Frequently asked questions
What is the standard 4.0 scale?
A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, F = 0. Plus/minus values can differ slightly by school.
How do weighted (honors/AP) GPAs work?
Some high schools add a bonus (often +0.5 or +1.0 points) for honors or AP courses, allowing GPAs above 4.0. This calculator uses the unweighted scale; colleges often recalculate unweighted anyway.
Why does a low-credit class barely move my GPA?
Because GPA is credit-weighted by design — it reflects your overall workload, so a 1-credit course counts a quarter as much as a 4-credit course.
