Frequently asked questions

Semester GPA vs cumulative GPA — what is the difference?

Semester GPA covers one term; cumulative GPA blends every term, weighted by all credits taken. One great semester lifts the cumulative figure only in proportion to its credits.

What GPA makes the Dean’s List?

Commonly 3.5 or higher for a term, but the threshold and name (Dean’s List, honor roll, honors) are set by each school — treat 3.5 as a typical benchmark, not a rule.

Do pass/fail courses count?

Usually not — pass/fail courses are excluded from GPA at most schools, though a fail sometimes counts. This calculator counts only the graded rows you enter.
