Results

Assumptions: ESTIMATE: score bands approximate recent released AP scoring patterns. Official cut scores are set by College Board each year and vary.

Formula

Multiple choice counts 60% and free response 40% in the official weighting; this estimator blends the section percentages and maps them to 1–5 bands from recent released patterns:
Blended % ≈ (MCQ% + FRQ%) ÷ 2 → AP band

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the estimate?

It is a planning guide. Official APES cut scores are set per administration; in recent years a 5 has generally required a composite around the low-to-mid 60s percent, but the exact line moves.

Why do the FRQs matter so much?

Free response is 40% of the exam, and its math-based question (Question 3 in the current format) rewards shown work. Strong FRQ performance can lift a borderline MCQ performance by a full score band.

Is there a guessing penalty?

No. Answer every multiple-choice question — blanks earn the same zero as wrong answers.
