Frequently asked questions

How many words is a 5-minute speech?

At an average presentation pace, about 650 words. At a slow, formal pace closer to 550; at a brisk 150 wpm, about 750.

Why do rehearsals run longer than the estimate?

Pauses, emphasis, audience reaction, slides and transitions all add time that raw word math ignores. Build in a 10–15% buffer for live delivery.

How can I measure my own wpm?

Read a passage aloud for exactly one minute at your natural pace, count the words covered, and enter it as the custom rate.
