Travel Time Calculator

Time, distance and speed are locked together: knowing any two gives the third. Choose what you want to find, enter the other two, and get the answer — whether that is the length of a drive, how far you will get, or the average speed you need.

Formula

One relationship, three rearrangements:
Time = Distance ÷ Speed · Distance = Speed × Time · Speed = Distance ÷ Time
Keep units consistent — miles with mph, kilometers with km/h.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose what to solve for.
  2. Fill in the two values that mode needs.
  3. Press Calculate — the headline is your answer and the detail shows the inputs.

Worked example

300 miles at an average of 60 mph.

  1. Time: 300 ÷ 60 = 5 hours.

Result: The trip takes 5 hours of pure travel time.

Frequently asked questions

Why will my real trip take longer?

The math assumes a constant average speed. If the speed you enter is your true door-to-door average (including slowdowns), the estimate is good; if it is your highway cruising speed, add time for stops and slower segments.

How do I estimate an average speed for a mixed trip?

A rough rule: use about 45–50 mph as the door-to-door average for mostly-highway US road trips, less with city driving. Or solve backwards from a past trip with this calculator.

Can I use this for running or cycling pace?

Yes — enter distance and time in the speed mode to get average speed, or distance and speed for your finishing time. Minutes-per-mile pace is speed turned upside down: 60 ÷ mph.
