Court Date Calculator
Court deadlines are counted, not guessed — and the counting method decides the date. This planning aid adds a period to a trigger date two ways: simple calendar days, or “court days” that skip weekends and US federal holidays. A clear warning applies: counting rules differ between federal and state courts, so always verify against the rules governing your case.

How to use this calculator

Worked example
A 14-court-day period starting Monday, November 2, 2026.
- Counting from November 3, skipping weekends plus Veterans Day (Nov 11) and Thanksgiving (Nov 26 falls outside).
- The 14th court day lands on November 23.
Result: Estimated deadline: Monday, November 23, 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Do federal courts count weekends?
Usually yes. Since 2009, Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 6(a) counts every calendar day for most periods — weekends and holidays included — extending the deadline only if the final day is a weekend or federal holiday. The “court days” mode here matches other counting systems (such as many state rules for short periods).
What if the deadline lands on a weekend or holiday?
Under most rule systems the deadline rolls forward to the next business day. The calendar mode of this calculator does not apply that roll — check the raw result against the calendar.
Can I rely on this for a real filing?
No. Treat it as a planning estimate. Deadlines can also be changed by court orders, local rules, and the method of service (which sometimes adds days). Confirm with the governing rules or an attorney.
